NC Schools Closed to Students Until May 15

Breaking News

LENOIR, N.C. — Caldwell County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Don Phipps announced this afternoon that North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has ordered that the state’s schools will be closed to students for instruction through at least May 15.

The announcement was made at the beginning of a special budget session of the Caldwell County Board of Education.

Phipps cited the “extraordinary” efforts by staff and community members in addressing the Coronovirus pandemic.

Phipps said that while schools will be closed for instruction, “Work will be pushed out electronically and technically” to students. For those without internet access, Phipps said the school system would be providing hard copies and working with partners to meet any instructional gaps.

He concluded, “Things are changing hour by hour but we’ve been able to keep our heads above water.”
