Herbert Boger, Retired Nurse, Passes Away

Mr. Boger’s vocation was caring for the most vulnerable patients

GRANITE FALLS, N.C. — Herbert William Boger, 60, of Granite Falls, N.C., passed away on Nov. 20, 2019.

Born on Jan. 30, 1959 in Charlotte, N.C., Mr. Boger was the son of Sally Tompkins Boger and the late William Fred Boger. He is survived by three sisters, Barbara Parker, Belinda Jester, and Sarah Barrick. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Boger was a nurse whose devotion to the most vulnerable patients was his hallmark. He earned his degree in nursing from New York University in the early 1980s. During the 1980s, he worked with HIV/AIDS patients during the height of the epidemic in New York City. His service to AIDS patients was a calling he embraced and at which he excelled.

Following his return to North Carolina in 1990, he worked in healthcare facilities serving the Alzheimer’s population, consistent with his willingness to provide care to the most vulnerable of patients.
